Dimensions and Tolerances in Spiral wound Gaskets

How UKL Spiral Wound Gaskets are manufactured?

The unique V-formed strips are alternately wound with soft filler strip on the edge of mandrill machine.External and internal periphery of the same are joined using spot welding. Here thickness of V-formed strips is 0.2mm.

Standard Material for winding metal:

SS304, SS316, SS316L, SS321, Monel 400

The material selection for windings depends upon various factors like corrosion, operating temperature, fluid concentration, etc.

The Outer ring mainly centers the gasket between flanges, while the Inner ring provides strength and also reduces internal turbulences and protects the sealing element.

Standard Material for Inner ring and outer ring:

Carbon Steel, SS304, SS316, SS316L

Standard Filler material:

Standard filler material Temperature limits
PTFE 260 °C
Flexible Graphite 500 °C
Mica 1000 °C

UKL is offering wide range of Spiral Wound Gaskets ranging from the sizes of 15NB to 120NB with EIL approval.

Pressure Rating:

Being a reputed vendor, we are serving various industrial segments with our Spiral Wound Gaskets with pressure rating ranging from class 150 and above.

Thickness:

Standard manufacturing thickness of spiral wound gaskets are: 3.2mm, 4.5mm, 6.4mm and 7.2mm. (measured across the metallic strip)

Manufacturing Tolerances:

The tolerance of UKL Spiral Wound Gasket diameters (d1, d2, d3, d4) are stipulated by ASME B16.20 standard. However, the standard ASME B16.47 is applicable for the gaskets above 24” &further divided into ASME B16.47 series A and ASME B16.47 series B.The gaskets are designed to fit between raised face flanges of ASME B16.5.

                                   Here
d1 = Inside diameter when Inner ring is used.
d2 = Inside diameter sealing element when no Inner ring is used.
d3 = Outside diameter of sealing element.
d4 = Outside diameter of Outer ring.
