What is the main difference between piston valve and globe valve


A disk-shaped plug that fits into the spherical body of a globe valve regulates the flow of fluid through the valve. A piston-shaped plug that fits into the cylindrical body of a piston valve regulates the flow of fluid through the valve.

Following are the the main difference between piston valve and globe valve:

No. PISTON VALVE GLOBE VALVE
1. Seatless Glandless Sealing Area- Relatively Large. i.e. inner surface of ring.  Seat at bottom, Gland with Stuffing Box. Reduced Sealing Area i.e. area between disc & seat.
2. No Leak across the ports. Leakage across the ports very common.
3. Piston-Unexposed to Media. Non-Abrasive Foreign matters are swept away by descending Piston. Valve Rings are resilient. No erosion of pistion “ DURABILITY” Seat & Disc constantly exposed to Media. Solid particles remain on seat & disc & seat are metallic. Erosion of disc & seat – VERY COMMON
4. Special Klinger Design Belleville Washer with rings produces spring action. Stays tight during thermal expansion. Conventional Valve Design. Chattering between disc & seat very common. Leakage during thermal expansion.
5. No Leakage of Toxic / aggressive Media Loss of fluid  due to leakage.
6. Energy & Cost Saving Leakage costly & Hazardous
7. Replacement of Rings makes valve new. No-Lapping / Grinding .Valve remains online during maintenance.  Seat & Disc call for lapping / grinding valve to be removed from the line.
8. Maintenance cost “NEGLIGIBLE” Maintenance not only costly but time consuming too.
