SELECTING STEAM TRAPS FOR INDUSTRIAL DRYERS

HOT AIR DRYER

In various Process industries Raw material or Processed Material is required to be Dried to remove the moisture. This is done with the Hot air either directly or indirectly taking heat from Steam.

In indirect method, Air is passed over through number of tubes or Coils which carry flowing steam. The Heat transfer takes place through Convection from Steam to tubes to Air. This Hot air is then use for drying the materials required.

As steam loses the heat and condenses, the condensate is to be removed to avoid all hazards which disturb this continues process.

High capacity trap like Ball Float Traps or Inverted Bucket traps is best choice for this application.

DRYING COIL

In drying coil numbers of Continuous Tube or Finned Tube are assembled to form a Grid like structure. Steam Passed inside the same when condenses move towards the drain outlet with the help of gravity.

Air is Crossed over the Drying Coil convects heat by cross flowing.

The condensate can be drained using Ball Float Trap or Inverted Bucket Trap.

In steam header a Thermodynamic trap & an Air vent is recommended for optimal process.

MULTI BANK PIPE DRYER

Multi-bank pipe dryers are the older types of tentering and carbonising machines, and kilns used in the textile and wood treatment industries Here the heating surface consists of horizontal coils running between vertical headers, the top of the vertical condensate outlet header should be air vented separately. This will considerably reduce start-up times. The bottom of the vertical stem inlet header should also be drained.

At the End of the Coil Ball float Traps or Inverted Bucket traps are recommended.
